Mike’s Top 10 SNES RPG’s - List of RPG’s for the Super Nintendo
These are my top 10 favorite Role-playing games for the SNES. If your reading this and haven’t played any I’d consider you checking some of these out if your a serious gamer. This Top 10 is kind of split up as you will see the first 5 games are very well known while the last 5 are not so well known.
Either way it’s a great list of snes rpg classic games that you may or may not have heard of.
1. Final Fantasy 2
My all time favorite Final Fantasy and SNES game every is Final Fantasy 2 and I decided to place it on top of the list. This game for me started my love of RPG as I can remember visiting my aunt and cousins, my older brother rented the game and I watched him play it and bam instant favorite. The remake of this game for the Nintendo DS excited me and I can’t wait for it’s release. If your one of those gamers who only has played the Playstation Final Fantasy games seriously give this one a go, it’s a true classic.

2. Final Fantasy 3
The second Final Fantasy created for the Super Nintendo.. actually Mystic Quest may have come before it but Mystic Quest was more or less a beginners game. Final Fantasy 3 kept its players entertained with a great storyline and characters. Like other Final Fantasy games FF3 had many secrets in the game that always kept you coming back to play more. This game can be found for a very reasonable price so pick it up before it becomes even more rare!
3. Chrono Trigger
Chrono Trigger is another game that everyone wants, at least I do anyway it’s quite expensive to purchase online nowadays but can sometimes be found for a good price. Chrono Trigger is another game made by Square now Square-Enix and has triffic game play, graphics, soundtrack and an interesting character base. I mean come on what other RPG lets you travel though time… I’m sure there is one out there somewhere…
4. Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals
Lufia II I enjoyed more then the first so I decided to put it on the list before the first. The main reason I liked this more is that I though the music and game play was much better and smoother then the first. It also had some interesting things you were able to do unlike the first game. Lufia games usually include little puzzles that you need to complete in order to continue on in the game and that sometimes increases game play and makes things more interesting. Sometimes!

5. Secret of Mana
Fantastic graphics, storyline and music soundtrack pretty much sums of this great RPG for the SNES. Secret of Mana is one of those games everyone wants in their collection and I was lucky to get one for 40 off eBay complete with box, booklet and of course the cartridge. Square made this game as well and in fact many games that are on this list. This game is getting quite rare nowadays and if you don’t have it in your collection you should try to pick it up as long as its for the right price.
6. Super Mario RPG
I can remember as a kid growing up loving Mario games and RPG’s wishing a Mario RPG would one day come out. My friend years later mentioned that a Mario RPG was in the works and that I had to play it. Square now Square-Enix did an amazing job at this game and I believe it was one of the last they did for the SNES. They went out with a bang that’s for sure and created a game that will have a long lasting impression for years to come.
7. Breath of Fire
Breath of Fire is another classic RPG for the Super Nintendo which has had many sequels on other consoles. Breath of Fire had a second sequel on the SNES which is an amazing game as well but I figured I would mention this game as it started it all. It sort of reminds me of Lufia as they are somewhat alike but either way this is a great game. The storyline and graphics much like the rest mentioned on this lst are quite good.
8. Arcana
Many people will say otherwise but I though Arcana had a great story line, creative ideas during game play, wonderful sound track of exciting music, cool bosses and of course characters. The game also had very little save points which made it much more difficult but that’s what I like in a RPG if its not that hard to beat its usually not that fun.
9. Dungeon Master
Early dungeon crawling RPG this game had some interesting points to it the first being the magic system where you had to combine certain words to create the spell you want. The think I enjoyed the most is setting up your characters. You start off at the start and wander around a small area looking at paintings that depicted heroes of the past. You are able to reincarnate this heroes to fight by your side.
10. The 7th Saga
I’m not sure where I got this game from but I can remember playing it while in school. Its one of those forgotten and very underrated RPG’s for the SNES much like Arcana above. Classic game with great characters, storyline and magic. The sound is quite good and so are the graphics for a game during that time period. If you haven’t seen or played this game why not pick it up. It can be found on eBay pretty cheap.
