Play NES, SNES and N64 Games with the Tristar 64!
I stumbled across this just today actually while searching for consoles that play NES and SNES games. The Tristar 64 actually plays NES, SNES and N64 games in one bundle. To be honest it’s an add-on for the Nintendo 64 produced by Future Laboratory in Hong Kong. The Tristar has two additional ports which are used to play both NES and SNES. It actually emulates the NES and SNES hardware allowing the game to run.
Other features include a built-in-cheat functionality called the X-Terminator as well as the Memory Editor which allows SRAM and EEPROM saved game data which can be archived and edited later. Since it’s an add-on to the N64 it does require a separate power supply, and connects to your TV by RCA output cables. It is said that the Tristar 64 will work with most titles for the NES and SNES however games with extra processor such as the SA-1 chip found in Super Mario RPG will not work.
