DK Tribute: Day 2 - Donkey Kong Country Promo
This segment of the Donkey Kong Country tribute is going to talk a little about the game itself and how it was promoted and above you can see the first part of a VHS that Nintendo published. I go into more detail below if you care to read.
Nintendo at one point sent out a video tape (VHS) to customers that bought the game, the video explained how the game was made and what was put into making it. I still have the tape from way back when and was thinking of taking it out recently.
I believe that only Nintendo Power subscribers received this VHS promotion video. The video features Nintendo of America which is based in Seattle, Washington. The VHS gives a sneak peak of the game and the team that helped create the game.
Rare collaborated with Nintendo in making Donkey Kong Country for the Super Nintendo and the video also goes into a little detail about that. YouTube has more clips of this VHS if your interested in checking out the remainder of it.
I talked a little about promotion of the game in the earlier chapter “Commercials” and this chapter somewhat ties together. Nintendo knew for the game to be suscessful they needed to do some serious promotion to it and I think that this video has helped.
The simple short VHS video gave Nintendo Power subscribers something to hold on to years later. I know that I’ll hold on to this tape for quite some time and not get rid of it. That’s it for this chapter, tomorrow we’ll talk about the game itself.
We’ll eventually talk about the music and graphics as well so check back soon!
