Welcome to Day 3 of the DK Tribute! So far I’ve talked mostly about the promotion of the game itself and have waited until now to talk a little about the game.

For the books Donkey Kong Country was first released ion 1994 by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Rare developed the game and like I said above Nintendo published it.

Donkey Kong who has become famous for such arcade games as “Donkey Kong” starred now in his own game for the Super Nintendo. Just a note but if you have a Nintendo Wii you’ll be happy to know that its available on the Virtual Console.

The first two posts were vital to this description because Nintendo put out an massive marketing campign for the game. Donkey Kong Country sold a incredible 9 million copies and made it easily the third best selling game on the Super Nintendo.

The game starts off as Donkey Kong finds his hoard of bananas stolen by the evil King K. Rool. Diddy Kong who is Donkey Kong’s best friend tags along with Donkey to help him find his hoard of bananas.

With the games pre-rendered 3-D graphics it was the first of a generation and the first game to hit home video game consoles across the world. Killer Instinct also features pre-rendered 3-D graphics.

The soundtrack for the game as well was very popular and is available on CD on various web sites. The music in the game we will talk about more on a later date, lets take a quick look at the character’s.

The main character of course is Donkey Kong and then his best friend Diddy Kong who follows him on his adventure. King K. Rool is the evil behind the theif of the banana hoard.

Crank Kong is Donkey’s father who gives him advice and helps him on his way. Funky Kong who helps Donkey and Diddy travel around the maps. Finally there is Candy Kong who is Donkey Kong is in love with.

Check back tomorrow when we talk about the music and overall graphics of Donkey Kong Country.
