While some say this is an early Donkey Kong game or where Donkey Kong came from is unknown for sure. Developed by Sega in 1983 Congo Bongo was so popular that it was released for many consoles such as the ATari MSX series, Intellivision, ColecoVision (Video), Commodore 64 and even the IBM PC.

Some suggest the idea for Donkey Kong would have came from this game. For example in the animated cartoon of Donkey the island they live on is called Congo Bongo and both the Donkey Kong series and Congo Bongo features an ape who throws objects from above. This of course I’m referring to the older Donkey Kong games and not the later from Super Nintendo.

Either way if you manage to come across this game for the ColecoVision I advise you to pick it up as it’s a great old game to play with hours of enjoyment.
