ColecoVision

Coleco Industries came up with the ColecoVision in August of 1982 which offered high quality graphics just like the arcade. It also was able to play Atari 2600 games as long as you purchased the extention, this provided an advantage over the 1600.

With only 12 games released with the game 170 were completed and offered all together from 1982 to 1985
Did you know that Coleco actually licensed Nintendo’s Donkey Kong as the game that originnaly came packed with the ColecoVision?

This and the fact that ColecoVision produced high quality arcade graphics vastly helped upon the consoles popularity and they would need that as Atari would soon bout out the ColecoVision’s main competitor the Atari 5200.

Like many other game consoles of the time the ColecoVision was rebranded and sold from various companies under names like Telegames Personal Arcade and the Dina. The Sega SG-1000 and ColecoVision both contain the same graphics chip and like the Sega Master System they both share a sound chip making the consoles hardware very much alike.

Some popular games would include: Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Junior, Carnival, Lady Bug and Mouse Trap. Some popular arcade games that were also available on the ColecoVision are Venture and Cosmic Avenger.
